Apple’s Cards App Could Ruin Your Lunch
Sending holiday cards to friends and family has long been a tradition that continues today even though more innovative (and cheaper) ways to reach out exist, such as through email and with e-cards. In October, Apple confirmed that sending real greeting cards remains popular, as the world’s largest tech company introduced its free Cards app for the iPhone/iPod touch.
The app has a basic premise;...

Penn State Football Is #1 Somewhere - And In A...
Joe Paterno might have been sacked, but he can take comfort in a new Time article listing the best college football programs - according to academics.
At the top of this year’s list? Yep, good old Penn State.
But the more ironic news is that the team that topped the list is Penn State, whose football program coached by the legendary Joe Paterno was recently rocked by a sex-abuse scandal....

You Know The News Is Slow Today, When...
Drudge is reporting on what President Obama’s daughters are eating at school. Today’s menu at the Sidwell Friend’s School is decided Japanese, which any other day of the year would be just fine. Today, of course, is December 7, Pearl Harbor Day. Major snafu? I don’t think so.
From The Washington Post:
A lunch that will live in infamy? That’s what at least one parent...

Concerning Sue Paterno's Pool Denial
I was so angry when it was reported last week that Sue Paterno was turned away from using the PSU Natatorum, I sent a nasty email to the Penn State president, Rodney Erickson. Today, I received an actual response from Tom Poole, VP for Adminstration.
It reads:
Dear Mr. Wolfe:
Thank you for your email. As Vice President for Administration I help President Erickson respond to emails and...

Erasing JoePa?
This is getting crazy. Joe Paterno’s statue next to Beaver Stadium may soon be torn down thanks to the Sandusky scandal. Now, The Daily has decided the time has come and lets its readers ‘erase’ JoePa themselves. Disgusting.

The Missing Zinio For Kindle Fire App Solution
Two days after it was supposed to arrive, Zinio is still not available on the Kindle Fire’s Appstore for Android. Here is a temporary solution:
Note: these instructions are ONLY for users on the Amazon Kindle Fire. This installer is not supported for any other device.
1. From the main screen, tap Settings > More > Device > Allow installation of Applications (from unknown...

My Kindle Fire Review
Until this week, the Apple iPad largely defined the emergent tablet market. Starting this week, however, that is almost certainly going to change, with the introduction of Amazon’s Kindle Fire, which arrives on the scene at less than half the cost of the iPad 2.
The $199 device, which I’ve tested for a few days, isn’t the iPad killer many expected when it was unveiled in late September. Still, it...

A REAL Coaching Legend? As Opposed To That Child...
I’m getting more and more steamed by this Penn State story each day. I’ve concluded after reading about this stuff 24/7 for almost 10 days that we don’t know the whole story. In other words, the time has come for each of us to keep our mouths shut. The only alleged criminals here are the three PSU employees that were arrested, headed by Jerry Sandusky. The others - Paterno and...
Penn State Won't Let A Few Bad Apple Destroy All...
As a proud Penn State alum (‘93), I like many others in this great nation, are trying to understand the events that continue to unfold in “Happy” Valley. One week ago today, we, as football fans, were thrilled with where our team was going in the Big Ten Championship race and were happy to know our group of misfit players had a nice weekend off to enjoy before a dangerous...

Penn State Train Wreck Getting Much Worse If This...
I’m completely sickened by today’s rumor that Jerry Sandusky was pimping out young kids to large donors of his organization. If this is true and Penn State officials knew about it, my alma mater may never recover and perhaps rightly so.
The full story
The quotes:
“I can give you a rumor and I can give you something I think might happen,” (Mark) Madden told John...

Joe Paterno Needs To Go Now
Joe Paterno might like to coach at Penn State until the end of the season, but I’ve concluded that this would be bad on a number of different levels.
First and foremost, short of Penn State forfeiting the rest of its games, each game from here on out will become a lightening rod for those folks that just want Paterno gone. Plus, while Saturday’s home game would be bad enough with...
What A Sad End To Paterno Era
The only question now is when Joe Paterno will announce his retirement, not if. My bet now is he will resign quietly after bowl season. Jerry Sandusky is the real monster here, but many in the PSU community are to blame for a cover-up. Unfortunately, if Paterno forced Sandusky to resign in 1999 because of allegations even back then, why would anyone allow the man to keep an office on campus for...

Gmail App Gone From App Store
Wow, that didn’t last long. Google has pulled the official Gmail app for iOS just hours after it arrived in the App Store. As a mentioned in my AppAdvice article on the subject, the app contained a bug and didn’t at all impress me, at least on the iPhone. My understanding is Google pulled the app to address notification issues.
The name on the front of the jersey is what really matters, not the name on the...

My Hour With Joe Paterno
In 1992 during my senior year at Penn State, I had the opportunity to interview Joe Paterno. At the time, I was an editor for the University’s yearbook, La Vie. Even though this was nearly 20 years ago, I still recall that day often, especially knowing that Paterno’s days as PSU’s football coach are likely over very soon.
Paterno is someone I’d best describe as authentic....

Prediction: Penn State 21, Northwestern 16
I used to write about Penn State football and even had a blog for that purpose. Took way too much time to keep track of stats and all of that - information that was readily available elsewhere. Now each Saturday, instead of worrying about stuff like that, I can just enjoy the games. My Nittany Lions are 6-1 heading to Northwestern, which is a pretty great place to be. Tough games ahead, however....

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now, so here’s go. Here’s my new personal website, courtesy of Tumblr. Not quite sure yet what I’ll be using this for, but hopefully it will develop into something soon. In the meantime, I encourage my following to visit me on Twitter and/or at AppAdvice.com. Enjoy!
